About Shiloh Counseling Services
Shiloh Counseling Services is a Christian counseling practice in Lubbock, Texas, with a second office location in Amarillo, Texas. Madoc Thomas, Ph.D., founded Shiloh in 1991, and Shiloh has thrived while serving Lubbock for over 20 years. In 2012 ownership was transferred to Sarah McDowell and Christina Truitt, who desire to carry on in the spirit in which Shiloh was founded, bringing peace, growth, and hope to our clients. While Madoc has stepped down as owner/director, he continues to play a vital role at Shiloh, advising the new owners, and counseling on limited basis.
The Role of Christianity in our Counseling
All Shiloh therapists believe that God is the Wonderful Counselor and that HE and our clients are the primary agents of change. Each of us tries to adapt our spiritual resources to each client's chosen beliefs, values, and attitudes. We believe Jesus reached out to people to give them life, not to give them religion. We seek to do the same.
About Shiloh's Owners
We believe it is vitally important not to violate clients by our Christian faith or by our therapeutic work in any way but to assist clients to make choices which will increase wellness over the entire course of life.
Christina and Sarah both began their counseling careers at Shiloh with Madoc Thomas. Sarah worked with Madoc from 1999 until 2008, at which point she was hired by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Christina worked with Madoc in 2008 and 2009, and went to work for TTUHSC at that time. From 2008 until 2012, they worked closely with the pediatrics and psychiatry departments, providing behavioral counseling for children and adolescents. During this time, they both received extensive training in pediatric behavioral and psychiatric issues, and earned a certification in Primary Care Behavioral Health. While working closely together, they became good friends due to similar beliefs and philosophies on life and counseling. In 2012, Sarah and Christina were blessed to return "home" to Shiloh Counseling Services as owners.
Our philosophy at Shiloh is that God is seeking to love us into abundant joyful life. We seek to actively join Him in nurturing and challenging our clients to understand their true identity, and to maximize the choices that lead to fulfillment.
